Vogalonga accomodations and details

We will be staying in a venetian palazzo that has been renovated into three large airy and elegant apartments in the san Marco area of historic Venice. The neighborhood is convenient to the historic center, the rialto market, the accademia bridge and many good neighborhood restaurants.

Every one will have their own bedroom, mostly their own bathroom, though there are a few shared bathrooms. The apartments are beautiful, and the building has air-conditioning and internet service.

The palazzo fronts on a small (quiet) canal and is close to the san Angel vaporetto stop.

Schedule and Details:

Wednesday May 15th: arrive in Venice, gather at 7pm for Bellinis and antipasti, then we will all have dinner at a local trattoria.

Thursday May 16th
: Breakfast at the apartment, free day to boat hop Venice with your vaporetto pass (provided). Dinner at local osteria.

Friday May 17th
: We will gather after breakfast to take a day trip to the islands of Torcello and Burano, where we will lunch at a very special restaurant. Dinner back in Venice at local wine bar.

Saturday May 18th: After breakfast, we will go to Mestre where we will join our german and italian teammates to unload, rig and prepare the boats for the race. . For dinner we will take the vaporetto to Murano for a team dinner on a quiet back canal, then return to Venice by boat.

Sunday May 19th: Up at dawn to pick up our boats at 7am. Warm up row to the start in front of the Doges Palace, and Santa Maria della Salute, then we're off.
Celebratory final dinner. More prosecco!

Monday May 20th: You are on your own for breakfast, and we must be checked out by 10 am.

We will be rowing the Max Planck, the Vater Rhein and the Otmar Schweitzer, three worthy 4x+that have rowed the Vogalonga nine times:( they know the way!) and joining forces with several german and italian rowers who bring their sense of humor, as well as their past experience rowing this race. The Vogalonga is a non competitive race for experienced rowers. It is long race that is challenging because of the large numbers of participants of all nationalities and craft, and because the weather in the lagoon, while usually peaceful, can vary. It is great fun, great camaraderie, and hard work!

Costs:red carpet

This is an amazing opportunity to view Venice as it was lived, from the water. The cost is $3500.00 all inclusive of housing, meals, rowing, entry fees and vaporetto pass. We do not include your transportation to and from Venice, though we will help you coordinate transfers with other participants. The cost for a cheering supporter, sharing a rowers room, is $1700.00. If two rowers want to share a room, we can offer a $500 discount. We do not have a lot of spaces (10 seats total) and so will need a $500.00 deposit to hold a space. Call us!
