Varese, Italy 2013
It was so great, we just have to go back!
The Varese lake is a "rowers" lake, with no motorboats other than coaches launches, two buoyed courses and kilometers of rowable water, nestled in the foothills of the italian alps. The scenery is spectacular, the hotel is steps from the rowing club, and of course, being Italy, the food and wine are wonderful. Our exceptional coaching duo will focus on helping you row stronger, and more efficiently.
Dates: May 8th to May 12th, 2013

Varese Accommodations
The great news is that the hotel, the boathouse and the lunch restaurant are all within a few steps of each other, so no need for a car, unless you wish.
The hotel is a nice small family style hotel, facing the lake and mountains.
The rooms have AC, TV, WiFi and each has it's own
modern and well designed bathroom with shower.
The lake has a cycling track around it, and the hotel has a few bikes and mopeds for the guests' use. We will have dinner each night at the hotel, which has a lovely outdoor terrace by the lake for nice weather, and an attractive dining room in case of something cooler.
Next to the rowing club is a small swimming club, and the very talented Rosalba prepares
our delicious lunches for us there. Wine is included at all meals, of course!
Coaches and Boats
We are excited that our dymanic duo of Peter Orlando and Carlos Dinares will return to coach our group. Peter has coached the national team U23, as well as the elite masters program at GMS. He was a former national team rower. Carlos Dinares, coaches at the university of Washington, and coached Ursula Grobbler to the Olympics. As a Spanish national team member, he competed in three World Championships and won medals in team boats at the 1997 Luzern World Cup and Mediterranean Games.
The camp is focused on getting better at going faster. The training is highly individualized, and responsive to your individual concerns. A combination of great coaching, regular video review and miles will help you reach a new level in your rowing. Please view the typical schedule for more details regarding each day, or call us if you have any questions.
Our host club provides us with very high quality european racing shells. We plan to work primarily in singles, but can accommodate you if you prefer to train with a double partner, or even a quad team.
Location and travel
Varese is located in northern Italy's Lake district, 45 minutes from Milan's Malpensa airport, with non stop flights from the US. It is a quiet smaller lake nestled between its more famous neighbors, Como, Lugano and Maggiore, and is dedicated to rowing. There are no motorized pleasure craft, only coaches launches are permitted. Frequently used by european national teams for training, there are two 2k buoyed courses, and many kilometers of open water (scenic alpine views included...)
